Serendipity hopes to make it easier for people to find their perfect match by using their cellphones. The Serendipity uses the Bluetooth radio system built into many mobile phones. Bluetooth transceivers allow phones, computers and gadgets to talk to each other within a 10-yard-wide bubble. The system "sniffs out" other Bluetooth phones every 30 seconds. If it finds one, it contacts the database to see if the owner is a good match.

"Toothing" is a new craze where strangers on trains, buses, in bars and even supermarkets hook up for illicit meetings using messages sent via the latest in phone technology. The respectable person sitting next to you on the train fumbling with their cell phone might be a "toother" looking for sex with a stranger. Read more.

Americans Seek Friendly Companionship, Not Marriage, from Online Dating Sites

Conducted in March, the survey asked 1,000 Americans, "Whether or not you have ever used an online dating site, what do you think people are looking for most online?" Overall, 37 percent believe people are looking for good times and companionship. Slightly more than 23 percent of all respondents believe people are looking online for a committed relationship, with only a mere 5.5 percent believing marriage is the ultimate goal.
